The Malawi National Examinations Board (MANEB), in partnership with the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, has officially released the MANEB MSCE Results 2025. The Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE) is one of the most important academic qualifications in the country, as it determines who is eligible for further studies or job opportunities.

To be awarded the certificate, candidates must meet one of the following requirements:

  • Option A: Pass in six (6) subjects, including English, with at least one subject passed at credit level.
  • Option B: Pass in five (5) subjects, including English, with at least three subjects passed at credit level.

This year, over 194,000 candidates sat for the exams, and the results reveal interesting trends across gender, school type, districts, and subject performance.

Overall Performance – MANEB MSCE Results 2025

Out of 194,584 candidates who sat for the exams, 113,708 passed, representing a 58.44% national pass rate.

  • Male candidates: 100,909 sat, 63,367 passed (62.80%)
  • Female candidates: 93,675 sat, 50,341 passed (53.74%)

Internal vs External Candidates

  • Internal candidates: 116,685 sat, 73,245 passed (62.77%)
  • External candidates: 23,206 sat, 10,365 passed (44.67%)

Open & Distance Learning (ODL) Candidates

  • ODL candidates: 54,693 sat, 30,098 passed (55.03%)

Special Needs Education (SNE) Candidates

Total SNE candidates: 932 sat, 532 passed (57.08%)

  • Male SNE pass rate: 61.90%
  • Female SNE pass rate: 53.13%

  • National secondary schools: 2,821 sat, 2,732 passed (96.85%)
  • District Boarding schools: 6,122 sat, 5,619 passed (91.78%)

  • District Day schools: 3,468 sat, 2,480 passed (71.51%)
  • Community Day schools: 53,571 sat, 28,877 passed (53.90%)
  • Private secondary schools: 46,232 sat, 29,738 passed (64.32%)

Queries and Remarking of Results

Any candidate wishing to query their results must do so in writing through their school by 6th October 2025.

  • Requests submitted after this deadline will not be accepted.
  • For those who want to request a re-mark, forms are available at schools.
  • Re-marking fee for 2025 MSCE: K45,000 per subject.
