The South Africa Department of Basic Education has announced that the release of the 2025 matric results will proceed as planned, despite concerns raised by a localised examination paper leak. Official Confirmation on the Release Date
Basic Education Minister Siviwe Gwarube has confirmed that the 2025 matric results will be released according to the national timetable. Speaking after irregularities were identified in a small number of examination scripts, the minister assured the public that these issues will not delay the results.
“The marking and verification processes remain firmly on track,” Gwarube said, emphasising that the department’s systems are functioning as intended.
According to the announcement, the 2025 National Senior Certificate (NSC) examination results will be officially announced on 12 January 2026, while candidates will be able to access their results from 13 January 2026.
Examination Paper Leak: What Happened?
The Department of Basic Education detected a localised breach involving a handful of examination papers from seven schools in Pretoria. Minister Gwarube explained that the breach was identified early, contained quickly, and is now under investigation.
A newly established National Investigative Task Team has been assigned to handle the matter. The minister made it clear that no final results have yet been approved and that the investigation will not interfere with the marking or verification timelines.
She further stated that “the integrity checks already built into the national marking system are continuing without delay,” reinforcing confidence in the credibility of the results.
Assurance on the Integrity of Results
The department has reiterated that its multi-layered security and quality-assurance processes are operating effectively. Minister Gwarube stressed that honest learners will not be disadvantaged as a result of the incident.
“All necessary steps are being taken to ensure that the credibility of the NSC examination results remains intact,” she said, adding that moderation and verification procedures will be completed in time for the scheduled release.
When Will 2025 Matric Results Be Released Online?

- Results will be available to candidates from 6:00 am on 13 January 2026
- Results can be accessed online via the official Department of Basic Education website
